Explanation of results


  1. This test reveals your web hosting server response time. It contributes to (but is different from) your webpage loading time. Your webpage load time depends on several factors, including its code, caching, content delivery system and more. The response time of your web hosting depends on the quality of its network and hardware. Ultimately, server response time is the foundation of your website’s speed. According to Google, a server response speed of 200 ms is your goal. Learn more about how our Server Speed Checker works.

    After we’ve captured the server response times from our test servers, we benchmark the average results against Google’s recommendation – 200 ms – and assign a rating to it. The map to the right shows the whereabouts of our testing servers. Click on it for a larger map.

  5. For the best user experience, the ideal rating for your server response speed should be B+ and above. At minimum, it should be C+. Here is how the servers are ranked:


    • Anything below 180 ms is ranked A+
    • 181 ms – 210 ms is ranked A
    • 211 ms – 220 ms is ranked B+
    • 221 ms – 240 ms is ranked B
    • 241 ms – 280 ms is ranked C+
    • 281 ms – 360 ms is ranked C
    • 361 ms – 520 ms is ranked D+
    • 521 ms – 840 ms is ranked D
    • 841 ms – 1,480 ms is ranked E+
    • Anything above 1,480 ms is ranked E


  6. Due to the nature of how computer networking works, the test depends largely on network stability across the globe, which means the result can vary at different times because it’s almost impossible for a network to be 100 percent stable. We encourage you to run the test a few times to see the true response speed.

  8. If your rating has not improved to at least C+ after a few tests, we suggest to review the locations where your server performs poorly. If your website audiences are not physically in the affected locations then this won’t matter much, but if they are then user experience will suffer. This may result in loss of users and potential sales. In that case, we strongly suggest for you to switch to a webhost that performs better in the affected locations.
